Designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior & Junior in 1970, Laguna Seca Golf Course is carved through the oak-studded hills of Monterey County between Monterey and Salinas. Presenting narrow uneven fairways, a host of strategically placed bunkers and Uphill doglegs, Laguna Seca Golf Ranch will challenge every golfer. The hilly typography of this layout will force you to use creativity on your approaches. Most of the poa annua greens are big and receptive although a few are deceptive when considering the line.

The signature hole is #15. This 548-yard, par 5, requires both the tee and approach shots to carry over water and is shaped like a snake. The Practice facility is one of the better facilities in the area, well designed and functional. Yearly mini-memberships are available which offer some of the best rates on the Monterey Peninsula and include play at Rancho Canada East and Rancho Canada West. This course is managed by Rancho Canada Golf Club.

I played Laguna Seca golf course over the weekend for the first time and had an interesting experience. The course is positioned just off the main highway between Monterey and Salinas. It offers an interesting mix of holes, some highly elevated tees, some extreme doglegs and one hole (#15) that is a "S" shape par 5 where you have to have to factor water on every shot. I played the tips and it did not seem very long at all, I never had to use my 3 or 4 iron on an approach. The maintenance of the course matched the price range, many rough spots but not horrible. My main complaint with the course is its proximity to the highway and the persistent noise that it creates. There are a couple holes on the front and back that are quiet but expect a roar when next to the highway. A bright spot is the driving range which is a great place to practice anytime.
