Sacramento’s Del Paso Country Club has been selected as one of the 13 sites nationally, and the only in California, to host a sectional qualifying tournament for the 2010 U.S. Open Championship.

The sectional qualifying tourney at Del Paso Country Club on June 7, 2010, could attract 90 to 100 golfers and perhaps 2,500 spectators, Del Paso head pro Mike Green estimated.

At that 36-hole tourney, golfers will be trying to qualify for the June 14-20, 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. The U.S. Open has two levels of qualifiers — locals and sectionals.

The U.S. Golf Association, the sport’s national governing body, asked Del Paso Country Club to host the sectional qualifying tournament because organizers liked the job Del Paso did in 2008 with hosting the local qualifier, Green said.

Del Paso, which re-opened July 2006 after a $10 million renovation, attracted more than 1,500 people to the 2008 local qualifier, which is more than any other host of a local qualifier, he said.

Del Paso Country Club has held major championships, such as the U.S. Women’s Open in 1982.

Founded in 1916, Del Paso is located at 3333 Marconi Ave. in Sacramento’s Arden-Arcade area.
