Tiger Woods has formally submitted his entry into the 2010 U.S. Open, meaning the world's No. 1 player will return to Pebble Beach Golf Links where 10 years ago he was victorious in arguably the most famous golf tournament in history.
All players have to formally apply for entry into the U.S. Open by April 28. Woods' name wasn't listed among registered entries until April 12. The tournament will be held June 17-20.
"Tiger has certainly filed an entry and we're certainly anticipating that he's going to play. If someone fully exempt files an entry, generally speaking they always do play," said Mike Davis, USGA senior director of rules and competitions.
"It'd be very unusual for someone fully exempt like Tiger to file an entry and not play, but it does happen if someone's knee gets hurt or something like that."
